Over the years many of you have heard me refer to my Mentor, usually when asking who recommended me to get those motorised benches or simply where I learned my techniques from.
Well here he is: Dr Leonard Faye and his wife Bernie when I met them for lunch on a recent trip to California. Len worked full time for 56 years until retiring in December 2024. I say retiring, he’s still writing and lecturing though. He’s currently putting the finishing touches to the new version of a book he originally published in 1993 called ‘Goodbye Back Pain’. The original edition sold 300,000 copies.
Len began his career in northern Ontario in 1958, before moving to the UK and establishing the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic in 1964. Len and Bernie were married in Lapworth and after returning to Canada in 1976 he made his final move to Los Angeles in 1984. Having attended the LA Olympics in the summer of 1984 he decided to stay and started practice in Santa Monica. The only hiccup thereafter was the LA earthquake in 1994 which caused the Santa Monica expressway to collapse and consequently cut him off from most of his patients!
Our paths first crossed in 2016. I desperately needed to book on a training course to achieve my CPD credits for that year and his was the only one going in August. After half an hour I knew his approach was the pathway I wanted to follow. I immediately booked in for the following weekend too. Len did further courses in the UK in 2017, 2018 and 2022. We stayed in touch in the gaps and he was always happy to provide advice. We’ve already agreed to meet at the same place next year!
